Our Mission
Roots Allotments exists to get 250,000 people growing their own food by 2033 — starting in the UK and going wherever we can operate responsibly. We open up no-dig, pesticide-free allotments to people stuck on years-long waiting lists or priced out altogether. On every patch we run we work to measurably improve soil health and wildlife, and we're proving that organic-principle growing works at proper scale.

Britain stopped growing. We're starting again.
Britain has lost three-quarters of its allotment plots since 1945. Waiting lists run for years. Most people who want to grow their own food can't.
Roots was founded to change that — not for a few, but at proper scale.

Every Roots patch is managed no-dig and pesticide-free, with a measured uplift in soil health and wildlife against an ecological baseline taken in the first 12 months of each site.
For the wider movement
Organic, at proper scale.
Proving that organic-principle, regenerative growing can operate at scale — making it normal, not niche.
03 · How we grow
No-dig. Soil first. Everything else follows.
- ·Don't dig — turning soil destroys the life inside it.
- ·Layer compost on top — feed the soil from above, the way a forest floor does.
- ·Let the soil do the work — fungi, worms, and roots build fertility for you.
No chemicals. No synthetic fertiliser. No rototillers. No peat. This standard is contractually required of members through membership terms and enforced through site audits.
